BYOD

Year 4, 5 and 6

At Fairlie Primary School we operate a flexible BYOD programme for students in Year 4-6. While you are welcome to provide a personal device for your child (which they can also use at home for passion projects), this is optional. We provide school Chromebooks for any student who does not bring their own. If you choose to purchase, we recommend Chromebooks, as these are used in our senior school and align with the Mackenzie College BYOD programme beginning in Year 7.

We believe BYOD captures current and future direction in primary education. This is reflected in the Digital Technologies Curriculum which was introduced to all schools in 2018.   Chromebooks are fast, easy to use, relatively cost-effective, safe and secure devices. As they have no moving parts, they are more resilient than laptops. They are becoming increasingly common in primary classrooms.

There are a variety of suitable devices available both online and in-store. Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman and The Warehouse Stationary are places that stock suitable BYOD devices. They often have some great deals and payment schemes.

We strongly suggest that a 3-year warranty and insurance cover are obtained if you wish your child to have their own Chromebook. All Chromebooks need to come to school in a robust case.

Digital Technology at Fairlie Primary School

At our school, Chromebooks and iPads are valuable learning tools that enhance student engagement and support personalised learning. To ensure a safe, respectful, and productive digital environment, our expectations for device use are directly aligned with our PB4L core values.

To maintain consistency across all classrooms, we follow a standard response framework when expectations are not met. Misuse is managed through a restorative lens, allowing students to reflect on their choices while learning digital responsibility.
